A Family Affair

A little over a week ago our family vacation started! Liam and I hit the road with my in laws headed to Atlanta GA for E’s brother’s wedding.

First stop was New Orleans, LA. We arrived about 10pm to a rainy city. The next morning we had a chance to explore the city a little, however it was super rainy so instead of walking we decided to stay inside the nice warm dry 15 passenger van:). Definitely a neat place I wouldn’t mind spending some time exploring.

Hard to see but a little Katrina devastation down in the lower 9th ward. I don’t think I’ve ever been so “at sea level” in a city before. It was truly amazing to look over and see the gulf waters as we were crossing the bridge.

Last but not least we had to check out one of the legendary cemeteries pretty cool.

Beatin the Heat

So anyone who has ever spent any time in Texas knows it’s a pretty hot place. We’ve been trying to beat the heat and pick the best time of day to be outside. Meaning early morning walks (9am early…ha!) and evening activities. However the best way to beat the heat is definitely at the pool.

Bean doesn’t take to the pool too well. We’ve only been a few times, the first time in Colorado was too cold. The first time in Texas was good for about 20 minutes then it was all down hill since it was the evening. This last time went over a little bit better until it inched in on nap time and we decided to crash!

Next week we start our trek with the family to Atlanta for a family wedding. We can’t wait! We stop in New Orleans for a night and Destin for 3 days. We’ve never been to either place and I can’t wait to share the experience with my little Lima.

 

July 2011

We’re more than half way through our opportunity leave and I’m trying to focus on the here and now.  It makes me sad to think how fast vacations go and how it seems we just got here, yet we’ve been here for more than a week.

July 4th was fun. We spent time relaxing with family, I made a Brown Sugar Cinnamon Peach pie out of Fredricksburg peaches, which if you’re from Texas you know are some of the greatest peaches around. This recipe was from the Southern Living July 2011 issue. I highly suggest it, if you’re a peach pie fan. I used store bought crusts, the kind you find in the canned biscuit section, very yummi.

We also made sure we were dressed festively.

 

Last night we had the chance to spend some time with some good friends of our who just so happen to own an amazing little photography company,Sweet Fix Photography. They took our family pictures, can’t wait to see the rest! Abby is also responsible for my amazing picture here on the blog.

They are very good friends, we knew Abby and her husband long before Sweet Fix existed but we will never go back :).

Over all it’s been a great trip, we’re looking forward to the rest of it :)

A little extra time, what?

I have a little extra time just this moment to post. I don't know where it came from but I'm not going to complain.

Life has been busy around here the last few weeks, first E's birthday, then Easter and now we've settle back into a lull. We're currently trying to figure out our block leave scheduled for this summer, how exactly is the best way to divide our time between the families. This will be the last time E gets to go home until the holidays. Every six months is getting old pretty quick.

Deployment is sneaking up on us. We have less than a year now, being a newbie to this lifestyle I'm starting to get a little anxious. I feel silly saying that because there is so much time. Everytime I think about a holiday we're having I think this is the last one as a family for a year.It's hard to wrap my mind around that.I want to do so many things and I want to make sure E gets as much time with Bean as possible. He's going to miss a lot and so I want to make as many memories as possible to think about while he's missing the other stuff.

Bean on the other hand is doing quite well. He's rolling over from front to back and spinning in circles, think break dancing style. He's very verbal with his cooing but mostly growling. Maybe he learned that from the dogs? Still not gaining much weight, I think the dr. has resigned herself to the fact he is just going to be a little guy.

oooh and another thought mothers day is coming :) I left a hint on the fridge about something I would like but I'm not sure he's going to get it....E might be slightly dense at times. I asked for something in Bean's birthstone and that I could add onto for the next child (or 2 or 3), I was thinking a birthstone band or a necklace charm with his birthstone or intial on it. Does anyone have anything like this that they truly just love?

So we've been catching up around our house. Daddy has been a pretty busy character since we have been back these last couple weeks. I think I've seen him a total of 6 days since the second week in March. I'm not complaining, I know there are people out there who haven't seen their husbands in months. But mine is about 20 mintues away and I still don't see him. It's pretty boring.

I feel I have to comment about this current budget crisis. If I were a legislator and it came down to choosing to cutting funding for abortions (I'll be nice and use that term I consider it baby killing and one of biggest sins) or shutting down the government and keeping millions of people from getting paid I think I'd go ahead and choose the cutting for abortion funding. Just sayin. We all knew this issue would come to a huge head at some point we just didn't know what the cost would be. God is at work through the Government that is obvious. It may be selfish of me to say but I feel this is one the democrats just need to give on.

In mommihood Liam is supposed to be growing like a weed, however this isn't happening as well as planned. He eats a lot but doesn't really retain it as well as some. He has been diagnosised, I geuss, with Acid reflux and when you're a guy this little it means loosing a good deal of your meal. In two months the drs wanted him to gain 60oz, he ended up gained 16oz. No beuno. So he now is taking zantac 2x a day and we are supplementing, after breastfeeding (due to a production issue) with a gentlease formula. This breaks my heart to know that I can't feed my baby as much as he needs but I keep telling myself it is for the best. In the last week he gained 7oz, pretty good for such a little guy.

He defiantely makes my heart happy.

Being a Mama

I would say I'm trying to get better at updating this thing but truth is in the pudding I'm not. I just never remember it's here until I see something I want to check. haha.

Bean is doing well, we have out 2 month next week, I'm a little nervous to take my baby in to be poked and prodded for his first round of shots. Wish me luck with that one. And then to come home for the evening and not have daddy coming home...we'll see.

Colorado is cold. I'm now not a big fan of the cold. I've been cold for a little over a year. I'm ready to be warm, I'm ready for flip flops, tans, tank tops, shorts and my windows rolled down. I don't see this happening in my future any time soon so I'll just continue to dream. Yes it's beautiful, yes there are mountains but blah blah blah I want sunshine and beaches. I miss being a 5 hour drive from vacation.

Mommyhood is interesting. I love it don't get me wrong but it has turned me into a different person. I child's crys no longer worry me or irriate me, my newest purfume is eau de spit up and the tiniest hit of a smile lights up my day from that little face even when I'm in the middle of providing a buffet for a little one .

Oh the adventures it brings.He is quite possibly the only person who requires more clothes changes than me.

well the feed me alarm is going off, see you soon...hopefully.

Where to begin?

So new mommydom has taken over my life, duh.

The bean is great, we sleep around 5 hours starting around 10pm and have been progressing towards 6-7 hours in the last few days. I’m very proud of my sleepy little boy.

He loves all things that move, the swing, the car or just being strapped to mommy. He eats, and eat and eats! I’m sure as a little boy this is something he might never grow out of, his daddy sure hasn’t :)

Speaking of Daddy he’s been out of town for the last few weeks but will finally be reunited with his little boy this week. I’m excited to see his reaction to how much he has changed.

I feel like in the past few weeks he has really gone from being a newborn to a baby. He has changed so much from the way he looks to the way he looks at me.

Everyone says by now he knows I’m his mom. I’m not sure about that but he really seems to follow me more with his eyes.

Of course one of my favorite things to do with him is a photo shoot. He’s such a cute little guy, I’m not sure how I got so lucky!

February!…already?

So daddy is gone to play army (that’s what I call it when he is training…some may not like it but I do so just take it with a grain of salt :) ) and we’re hanging out with Grandmas and Grandpas getting to know everyone.

Liam has been a very good baby. He sleeps 4-5 hours starting after our 10pm feeding. He loves going places or just staying at home, in general he is very cooperative in everything we do. He is my biggest blessing by far!

As you can see he was pretty happy with his first big car trip!

I think it’s official, I’ve joined the mamarazzi club :) I just can’t resist that handsome face!

Long Over due!

in many ways! haha. Bean was born on Jan 22, at 4:46 am, 8lbs 4oz, 21in! It was an unexpected C-section but we are so happy he is finally here! I went in the morning of the 21st and after being in labor for 12+ hours they decided he was not going to come out the way he was supposed to, mainly he was headed forhead first and so we went with plan B.

He is here and doing well.
